چکیده

More than 2000 years ago our cultural roots point to a rather active role of the school system in promoting greater activity in play and competition. The old Greek gymnasium considered exercise and physical activity to be at least as important as intellectual education. Today the myth of everlasting youth, beauty, happiness and freedom of disease is, more than ever, a part of the lifestyle and identity of the western world. Fitness is one of its artificial parts, being achieved mainly by training, through sportive indoor and outdoor activity and resembling the exercise capacity that was formerly acquired by activities necessary to cope with everyday life. Fitness training has become a well-established part of wellness and providing outfits for training is a growing industry. Thus, the importance of fitness in health and disease is also an important issue in our health system. The role of exercise for health has been investigated in numerous studies and surveys and the association of coronary artery disease and sedentary lifestyle has stimulated recommendations from many societies including the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the centres for disease control and the NIH to recommend regular aerobic exercise. Without doubt, a more sedentary lifestyle is related to classical coronary risk factors, like elevated low density and reduced high density lipoprotein, cigarette smoking,

Predictive validity of health-related fitness in youth: a systematic review.

The objective of the present systematic review was to investigate whether physical fitness in childhood and adolescence is a predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, events and syndromes, quality of life and low back pain later in life. Physical fitness-related components were: cardiorespiratory fitness, musculoskeletal fitness, motor fitness and body composition. Adiposity was c...

Relationship between Quality of Life and Cardiorespiratory Endurance in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Background & Aims: Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. This disease is caused by defects in insulin secretion, insulin function, or both (1, 2). This chronic disease can have serious short-term and long-term consequences that affect the health and quality of life (QOL) of patients (3). Type 2 diabe...

O20: The Benefits of Increased Physical Activity and Higher Cardiorespiratory Fitness in People Living with Mental Health Disorders, with Specific Emphasis on Anxiety Disorders

Evidence has been accumulating for some time regarding the reduced life-expectancy experienced by people living with a mental illness. In developed world settings this can involve a two-decade reduction in life expectancy, whilst in the developing world the gap may be as high as thirty years. Whilst genetic risk factors and suicide contribute to this ‘scandal of premature mortality’...

Cardiorespiratory fitness: a comparison between children with renal transplantation and children with congenital solitary functioning kidney

Children with end-stage renal disease are known to have a cardiorespiratory fitness significantly reduced. This is considered to be an independent index predictive of mortality mainly due to cardiovascular accidents. The effects of renal transplantation on cardiorespiratory fitness are incompletely known. We compared the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) of children with a functioning renal trans...

The Effect of Aerobic Interval Training and Massage Therapy on C-Reactive Protein and Cardiorespiratory Fitness in Cardiovascular Patients after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an 8 week period of aerobic interval training and massage therapy on changes in C-reactive protein (CRP) level and cardiorespiratory fitness in cardiovascular patients after coronary artery bypass graft. The study population consisted of patients who had undergone a coronary artery bypass graft and at least one month had passed since t...

Prediction of Non-exercise Iranian Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Investigation the Effective Components on Society: an analytic (case-control) study

Background & Aims: In large populations, the level of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) can be evaluated by estimating non-exercise models with the least amount of time and money. In this study, we present non-exercise equations for predicting CRF and also investigate the effect of socio-environmental factors on it. Materials & Methods: 2490 male and female subjects aged 25-65 years old from dif...
